Treehouse Book Reviews: The Black & Decker Complete Guide: Build Your Kids a Treehouseby TreehouseSupplies.com
If you just need one book to help you build a basic kids treehouse, this one is one of the best options available. The advice is well rounded and is more carpentry oriented than most. For example, the studs & joists are 16"O.C. which would pass building codes, whereas many other treehouse plans & books advocate greater spans - may be okay for small structures for kids. While the author is not a professional treehouse builder, the advice clearly comes from some of the well known builders, authors, & bloggers. There are some excess beams in the free plans in the back that don't do anything besides hurt the tree, and although I've seen other treehouse books recommend the same thing, that is a practice that should really stop. Most of these books are simply compilations of available treehouse building information anyway, and therefore, they keep repeating the same mistakes... But this book in general has better than average construction commentary, and will help a first time treehouse builder to complete a basic kids treehouse. So if that's what you are looking for, consider The Black & Decker Complete Guide: Build Your Kids a Treehouse
