This is by far the best treehouse book by David & Jeanie Stiles to date. This book is very helpful to people building their own simple or basic treehouses for their kids. The sample plans in the back are detailed and creative, making materials budgets stretch. There is discussion throughout that shows several simple alternative methods to apply to various treehouse building situations. We have not seen better treehouse building illustrators in other treehouse books - the color photos and the sketches complement each other and are clear.
Please still be advised that we still noticed several misleading or oversimplified discussions in Treehouses & Playhouses You Can Build. For example, on page 57, the difference between safe working load (SWL) and minimum breaking strength (MBS) when comparing cable to chain is not mentioned - not understanding the difference could lead people to build treehouses that do not have a proper safety factor or rely on materials that are cheaper and sold on MBS rating rather than SWL. It is also encouraging to see the Stiles Duo mentioning the cambium growth layer in trees, but still discouraging to see methods recommended that will eventually inhibit 40-60% of the tree's growth.
