Treehouse Book Reviews: Tree Houses You Can Actually Buildby TreehouseSupplies.com
The good part of this treehouse book is that it is a comprehensive guide for beginners with sections on safety, tree health, planning & designing, and the basics of just about everything you need to consider before and while building your treehouse. It shows a lot of creative ideas for construction and the accessories. The style is very approachable and often humorous, and the designs in the back give enough detail that a handy person could actually feel empowered to tackle any of these projects.
The bad is that the tree attachment methodology includes methods that will restrict future tree growth and possibly kill the trees 5-10 years down the road or so. There are also places where the authors advocate putting several bolts/screws into the tree in close proximity, and this runs the risk of the trees compartmentalizing the whole area as a single wound.
Lastly, don't follow any of the advice on zip lines because the pictures are misleading, the materials are undersized and inappropriate, and the examples are pretty far from meeting ACCT or PRCA standards. Never use 1x7 EHS cable for a zip line because it's not designed with flexibility in mind. Use GAC or flexible wire rope instead and a professional grade zip line trolley.
