Building a “Green” Treehouse
Leaving A Positive Impact
As a treehouse supplies company, we not only care about the trees our customers build on but the environment as a whole. We only have one world, so we have to make sure we are doing our part to leave a positive impact on it. How we build treehouses today has changed immensely over the years due to fantastic engineering feats, and creating an eco-friendly treehouse has become much more accessible. Plenty of resources are available that can help you build the perfect “green” treehouse that you can find on our website or even in your home! Here are some ideas to help you get started…
Where To Start?
-
The Foundation
- Use what has already been harvested! Using recycled wood is a great start when building the foundation of your treehouse. For example, the siding of old barns or even the wood from an old fence would make for a unique-looking treehouse. Megan Nichols of WeAreWilderness.com, brought up a great point when she stated that asking your local lumberyards and construction companies may have scrap wood that they are willing to part with for free — or significantly reduced price.
-
Watch the Products You Use
- Make sure you use environmentally safe products when constructing your treehouse. If you are painting the treehouse, make sure you use paint that won’t be harmful to the environment, use bolts that can stand the test of time and won’t cause your treehouse to fall in certain weather conditions, and try to incorporate some features of the house that blend in with it’s surrounding to help the wildlife become accustomed to it.
-
Renovate Your Treehouse with an Eco-Friendly Style
- Thrifting is back and better than ever! Why purchase new furniture when there are plenty of items you can use from your own house or a local thrift store? What better way to add a unique sense of flare to your new treehouse than with items that have been household favorites over the years.
-
Let There Be Light
- In recent years, we have been working on helping our customers reduce their carbon footprint with our products. Looking to spend a little extra time in your treehouse even after the sun has set? You can now use our SolarHome 620+ kit, which brings modern lighting, energy, and entertainment to transform any structure into an off-grid home.
